Foundations of Dance and Dance Etiquette
This lecture contains the basics necessary to feel prepared both in a dance classroom, studio, or social setting. Topics covered include - Item One: Dancer care, hygiene. Item Two: Being respectful of everyone’s time. Item Three: Commitment to dance. Item Four: Studying ahead of time of the dance you plan to learn. Item Five: Constructive Criticism (As received as a student). Item Six: Switching up partners for social dances/classes. Item Seven: “What do I do??” Asking someone to dance, and how to handle when “No” means “No”. Item Eight: Social spatial awareness on the dance floor. Item Nine: Skill levels and navigation. Item Ten: Posturing for safety. Item Eleven: Commitment on the dance floor. Item Twelve: Spatial comfort with your partner. Item Thirteen: The elements of connection in partner style dances, broken down into 3 parts. (Lecture can be tailored to audience needs. e.g. - classroom vs social dance environment. )
